Sustainability

Leaving a Positive Legacy

Sustainability is central to how Legacy Ventures designs and runs programmes. We have a responsibility to the destinations and communities we visit, we seek to understand the environmental impact of our activities, and we work to reduce it.

What our programmes teach travels further than we do. Participants meet the people driving the energy transition directly, and carry what they learn back into their own organisations. Our central ethos has always been to make every programme live on in the memory of everyone who takes part: a programme should leave a positive legacy, with the people who travel and in the places that host them.

How we work sustainably

Local community support

On every tour we involve organisations and individuals whose work demonstrates innovative and inspirational practice, and who effect positive change in the communities that host us. We work with some fantastic organisations, and every year we raise funds and encourage our participants to stay connected and to help them further.

Representation in our programmes

The people who speak on our programmes shape what participants take away. We build each speaker line-up deliberately, so participants hear from underrepresented groups and from voices across the business community of every destination.

Carbon offsetting with ClimateCare

Every client can choose to offset the flight emissions from their programme by adding a voluntary contribution to the tour price. Contributions go to our carbon-offset partner ClimateCare, which funds projects including efficient cookstoves in Uganda, wind turbines in India, and water filters in Kenya.

Our partners on the ground

We deliver through established local ground partners, local guides, and local venues rather than international chains wherever quality allows, so that programme spend stays in the destination economy.

ESG content on the programme

We aim for at least one engagement with a direct sustainability focus on every programme: a sustainability director inside a major company, an organisation working in the host community, or a business leading the energy transition in its market.

A positive legacy by design

Local culture and communities are an integral part of every itinerary, not a photo stop. Programmes are designed to benefit the people and places that host them, and to leave a lasting, positive mark.

Sustainable Options on Every Programme

Build a programme to your criteria

Programmes can be designed to meet specific sustainability requirements, and increasingly our clients ask for exactly that. We already deliver boxed water and alternatives to single-use plastics, menus built around vegetarian options and locally sourced suppliers, and itineraries planned around walking, public transport, and electric vehicles, with consolidated transfers.

Venue and hotel selection can take the provider's own sustainability policies into account. If your organisation has sustainability criteria for its programmes, we can build to them.

Sustainability-Led Programmes

Sustainability as the whole syllabus

Some programmes go further and are built around sustainability entirely. In Copenhagen, participants meet the corporate responsibility leaders and executives behind the Nordic circular economy. In Cape Town, the focus is social impact, grassroots enterprise, impact investing, and inclusive finance. On these programmes, sustainability is not just one meeting on the itinerary, but a comprehensive framing for the whole programme.

Sustainability

Ask us the hard questions. We would rather answer them than avoid them.

If your institution has sustainability requirements for its travel partners, send them over. We will tell you plainly where we meet them and where we do not yet.
